Points for a Great Autumn Proposal
I just realized I never shared this proposal (this is a common theme in my socials and blogs!) and they are so cute!

Mountain Proposal Photography doesn’t have to be difficult to plan!
Let Lacey help you plan the perfect proposal in the mountains!
TIMING
My prime time for scheduling all portrait sessions is sunset. Golden hour (the hour before sunset) into blue hour (twilight) are absolutely ideal. But sometimes the best planning doesn’t pan out; none of us control the weather. Working with whatever mother-nature throws at us is crucial. Chooose a photographer that can make your images sing and work with it all.
You can also look at sunrise or a cloudy day for good lighting. In general any time where the shadows are long or the clouds limit light. The sun directly full and overhead is the worst lighting- so we avoid raccoon eyes by finding times and places this is limited. A cloudy day is your friend; photographers consider this a great natural “softbox” effect to create even lighting.
WEATHER
A full on rain shower can be fun for a few photos but is bad for clothing, hair, makeup and photo equipment. Work with your photographer to create backup plans if necessary and be willing to adjust. You can consider indoor spaces (like a Champagne bookstore) or covered spots. Umbrella’s can work until you’re ready to give up and get with the rain.
FALL COLORS
Generally, you can count on the highest elevations losing leaves first, as well as bringing the earliest autumn tones of red and gold. Lower elevations usually have leaves turning the latest in the season and a view of the mountains behind makes a great alternative mountain proposal location. Places like vineyards can arrange for a private picnic or tour. Make sure to check with the locations of your choice to make sure they aren’t already booked up for a wedding or other event.
PLAN IT OUT
Once you have the location and timing down, there are a few key ways you can help make the proposal picture-perfect.
X marks the spot — you can vary but your best bet is one spot your photographer can wait at and see both your profile. You kneel and your partner will move to you, so talk to your photographer to make sure you know where they will be watching and photographing from.
Help your soon-to-be fiance! The last thing on your mind or their’s is the fine details like glasses on the head, or a handbag on the shoulder, or hair in their face. If you think of it, help them remove these items before you kneel.
Hands: This is your moment. Make it fluid, natural, real. You can tuck their hair for them, touch their arm gently, brush your lips on their forehead. All the things couples in love are bound to do. We encourage this and help where we can!
Most of all, our best advice, is have fun, make a memory, and enjoy yourself! Can’t wait to work with you on your proposal in Western North Carolina!
